Goyard Brand History
Founded in 1853 by François Goyard, a skilled trunk maker, Goyard is a French luxury brand specializing in leather goods. In fact, Goyard is the world’s oldest leather goods manufacturer currently operating.
From the beginning, Goyard has been a relatively quiet brand. They don’t have blowout sales or participate in flashy collaborations. They don’t give interviews. And they certainly don’t sell anything online.
That said, the brand gained a bit more traction in 1998 when Jean-Michel Signoles bought the family-owned business. Under his leadership, Goyard opened a number of new workshops in France, expanded its boutiques across four continents, and introduced new colorways.
Still, despite all of these changes, Goyard maintains its reputation as one of the world’s foremost luxury brands for celebrities, heads of state, and the well-heeled.

Which Is The Best Goyard Backpack?
If you’re looking for an everyday, small backpack the Mini Alpin might be the one. If you’re on the hunt for a regular sized Goyard backpack, there are several factors that you can use to make your decision easier.
- weight carrying a backpack typically means that you’re going to carry a lot of things with you, so you might not want one that is already heavy. The lightest Goyard backpack is the Saint Leger
- closure as you can see in the photo below, different Goyard backpacks have different types of closures. Personally, I love a zipped closure, which is why I gravitate towards the Cisalpin
- size depending on what you need to carry with you, you might need a smaller or a bigger backpack. The biggest backpack currently available is the Steamer and the smallest is of course the Mini Alpin
- strap width it’s up to you if you prefer a sleeker, thinner strap or a more comfortable wider strap, there’s a Goyard backpack for every taste
- price it’s of course a big basis for which Goyard backpack to choose. Currently, the most affordable backpack is the Saint Leger

Alternatively, you can find quite a few second-hand Goyard backpacks on eBay, but please make sure you’re buying from a reputable seller and to authenticate once you get your backpack.

In terms of shape and size, the Cisalpin is the most typical backpack Goyard sells. Probably the best feature of this model is the structured double-slider zipper closure system that keeps the bag wide open while you’re packing.
Inside, there’s a floating pocket for storing small necessities like a cardholder or a small wallet. There’s also a D-ring hook so your keys don’t get lost in the bottom.
Compared to Goyard’s other backpacks, the Cisalpin has fairly wide straps, meaning your back and shoulders will stay comfortable, regardless of how much stuff you’re carrying.
