At VALLI, we craft terroir-driven wines highlighting the different grape-growing regions of Central Otago and the Waitaki Valley on the South Island of New Zealand. While our foundation is Pinot Noir, we also produce wines from Pinot Gris, Riesling, and Chardonnay. Creating expressions of the Otago sub-regions is at the very heart of what we do: wine is simply the medium we employ to do so. Established in 1998 and named after his Great-Great Grandfather, Giuseppe Valli, who immigrated to New Zealand from an Italian winemaking background, Grant founded Valli with the aim of creating true representations of Otago¿s subregions with unflinching intensity and purity. This was also a first for the region ¿ no one had attempted to capture, let alone master the developing subregional plot that has now begun to unfold as the next exciting chapter in the Otago wine story.

The wines from this very warm part of Otago have been described as "big friendly beasts". They are dark, rich, lush wines capturing the rock-reflected heat and ripeness of this special site. VALLI

A very structured pinot with blue fruit, flowers and slate with hints of graphite on the nose and palate. It¿s full-bodied but tight and hemmed in. Very precise and focused for a really big pinot, but comes off agile and energetic. This will age well. Beautiful follow up to the 2021. Drink or hold. Screw cap. (96) JAMES SUCKLING
